The risers are designed to allow you to get your dovetail mount (bench pin) up above the surface of any work table. They are adjustable for height, and strong enough to stand up to anything you can dish out. No more wobbly improvised lifts. These things simply will not move. They can adjust for any height from 6.5" to 10.25" above the table, in 1/2" increments. They can be either screwed down, or clamped in place with C clamps. This lets them go anywhere, and they in turn let you work anywhere. At a workshop, show, or even on the kitchen table. All without wrecking the table.
Many makers are working in improvised situations, on work surfaces that are too low for precision work, or on household tables that can’t be dedicated to jewelry work, like the dining room table. It still needs to be available for dinner too. Bending down to deal with a too-low bench pin will quickly wreck your back, and worse, your will. These risers are designed to let you mount any of your dovetail system tools at a better height for working. Thus saving your back, and your enthusiasm. They clamp to the table in seconds, and come off just as quickly, saving dinner. We’ve all gone to workshops that were held in places with only normal height work tables. Entirely too low for precision work. These risers let you take all your dovetail mount tools along with you, and use them properly. All of our dovetail mount tools will fit, as will all of GRS’s benchmate tools, or any other tool fitting that standard.
Brian still teaches jewelry classes on the weekends at a local college, and the studio there only has ‘normal’ work tables. Way too low for jewelry work. Fortunately, a previous instructor made up a set of home-made bench pin towers to let the students work at a more comfortable height. Those towers, nice as they are, won’t mount a dovetail, or any of the dovetail tools. So Brian cooked up these towers to fit that need. We thought we should share.
The bench pin risers are available in two versions: steel and aluminum.
Knew Concepts is known for making long lasting, quality tools. Brian always says he builds tough. So for the bench pin risers, he designed them around panels of 3/16" solid steel. Which makes them strong enough to park a truck on. But it also makes them weigh 10 pounds each. Which is great for people who won’t ever move them, but most of us are going to need something easier to lift. So we also make a version with thick tempered aluminum legs that’s nearly as strong, and only 6 pounds each. Much more portable, and still stronger than the table it’s attached to. The two versions are visually identical. The only difference is the material the legs are made from. The other parts are all still solid steel for durability.
C clamps, if you need them, they are best purchased locally to fit the individual clamping situation. They are not included with the risers.
