We frequently get the following questions; “What is the difference between a Hand Saw, a Fret Saw, Jeweler’s Saw, and a Coping Saw? Which saw blades go with what saw?”

Technically speaking, they are all hand saws. There are two types of hand saws that we sell:

  1. Fret Sawsalso referred to as Jeweler’s Saws, are hand saws that are smaller than Coping Saws and use shorter, unpinned blades that are intended for fast turns and maneuverability. Using the proper blade, they can be used for either metal work or woodwork.
  2. Coping Saws are hand saws that are a bit bigger than Fret Saws. They are intended for aggressive cuts, wider turns, and are best suited for woodworkers. Coping Saws use pinned blades ONLY.

Both types of saws saws can look pretty similar, but the key distinction is the blade. Coping Saw blades won’t work with Fret Saw frames (and visa-versa) regardless if pinned or not.

Artritic Hands

One of our customers recently asked us: “I have slight hand (grip) difficulties. Do you have a larger, thicker handle for me?”

Absolutely! Our new American made Slip-on Foam Comfort Grip for our hand saws increases the diameter of the saw’s handle without adding weight, while it also makes the saw handle softer and easier to hang on to. All of which reduces hand stress and fatigue.
